When your baby is in an emergency, it’s crucial to provide care and call out for help immediately. Since their bodies are still adjusting, more fragile, and more compact than adults, first aid is different from performing care in an adult. To provide you with the best care, a simple step-by-step guide is prepared so you can place it in your home, car, nursery room, bag, or at your office.
- Before giving first aid to the baby, check the environment for safety. Establish an initial impression. Ask for consent from the parents if you need to perform any emergency execution.
- Check for any responsiveness by using shout-tap-shout. For a child, call his or her name to get attention. If nothing happens, tap the shoulder and shout again. Check for breathing, bleeding, or any life-threatening condition. For babies, shout to get attention. If nothing happens, tap the good and should again. Check for breathing, and bleeding. Do this in less than 10 seconds.
- If the baby is not responsive, conscious but not fully awake, not breathing or gasping for air, has serious bleeding, or any life-threatening condition, call 911 as soon as possible and provide care according to the situation found.
- If the baby does not respond or breathe, start CPR with compressions. Continue giving 30 chest compressions and 2 breaths. Wait until:
- Sign of life is visible
- AED is present
- Another train person is available to take over the compressions
- Emergency personnel has arrived and started their care
- You have been doing CPR for 2 minutes (5 sets of 30:2).
The main factor in providing care when it’s most needed is to prepare yourself for the unexpected. We offer first aid tools at our pharmacy for your convenience.
